Thank you Cathy and Edward...I heard or read the following statement
probably 20 years ago and since then it has always stuck with me - I
seldom verbalised it, but it forever popped into my consciousness:
"Borders are nothing but man-drawn lines on man-made maps". Today, I was fortunate enough to behold its truth in action when I MC'd the wedding reception of Cathy and Edward. Cathy, a local Cape Town girl and Edward, a Zimbabwean expat brought their two families from two obviously vastly diverse cultures together as one, and I feel enriched by the experience of being right there in the thick of things when it (ceremonially) happened! I was very anxious about being able to relate to a "foreign" audience and within minutes I realised that there is nothing "foreign" about these people. Whatever our differences might be, and no matter where we might be from - we always have more in common than we think. When we build walls between our neighbours and ourselves, we build a culture of "me vs.you" when we can be so much more powerful when we become one. It can be argued that that's what marriage is all about. Funny that. Thank you Cathy and Edward for allowing me to be witness to this beautiful convergence of two separate, yet connected entities. I am indebted to you... Posted on: 06 April 2013 Lance Kenned aka Mister MCMaster of Ceremonies, Cape Town, South AfricaPlease e-mail me your feedback here |
