Don't allow anxiety to ruin your speech...I did a wedding this past weekend where again I witnessed how someone's nerves torpedoed his entire speech and toast. He knew what he wanted to communicate, but was unable to execute it because of some basic mistakes made. Everyone, even the most seasoned speakers, get nervous before speaking. Anxiety is your biggest enemy when delivering a toast or speech, so here are my TOP THREE TIPS to keep your nerves under control next time you’re asked to toast your daughter / best friend: 1. When under high stress, humans have the tendency to forget to breathe. Before you go on, take five slow, deep and rhythmic breaths. In... and out. In... and out 2. Just before you start speaking, pause, make eye contact with five audience members, and smile. This will help you relax and will boost your confidence. 3. Don't rush! Speak slower than you would in a conversation and pause often between sentences. The slower pace will calm you down and you’ll be easier to hear / understand. As your confidence builds, your speech will take on a natural rhythm. I hope you guys find this useful...
